Gary Waldhorn dead: Vicar Of Dibley star dies aged 78 as his son leads tributes

The actor was best known for playing councilor David Houghton on the fan-loved television Sitcom.

His son, Josh Waldhorn, shared the news and sent a heartfelt compliment to his dad.

He states: “My beloved father, Gary Waldhorn, died peacefully on January 10, 2022 at 6:45 am.

“It was the theater that really flourished with classic training. He left a legacy of entertainment and frequently went in and out of Broadway, the West End, and the living room of television.

“He left behind two grandchildren, Cooper and Bailey, and his son Josh. We will all miss him terribly.”

Most recently, Late Star appeared in the Christmas special The Vicar of Dibley in Lockdown.

He starred with the French who played Geraldine Granger and James Fleet who played his son Hugo on the screen.

The BBC also paid tribute to the late stars following the news.

A statement from the BBC comedy team said:

“Our idea is with his family and friends during this difficult time.”

His other TV shows included 1980s and 90s favorites such as Brush Strokes, Lovejoy and Gallowglass.

Waldhorn also enjoyed a long career in theaters, including the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Other deceased Viker of Dibley stars include Emma Chambers, who starred as Alice Tinker, and Trevor Peacock, who played Jim Trott.

Dawn French, Robert Lindsay and Samuel West have led social media compliments to the stars.

The French posted a black and white image of the actor with a broken heart emoji.
