I start with a notification that some of what you’re about to see is revealed NSFW.. For adults.
In the 1990s, Japanese surrealist artist Tomomi Sakuba realized that she could make games on her Mac using free HyperCard software. After several prototypes, he began working on what would eventually become a garage: Bad Dream Adventure is about fetal biomechanical creatures navigating the parapsychological and disturbing sexual world. A strange and disturbing point-and-click adventure.
It’s not a complete horror game and doesn’t rely on fear or bloodshed, but aesthetics can be generously described as a nightmare. This is perfect because it seems to have been torn from the nightmare of the production site.
The main character has two statistics, ego and fuel. You die when you run out of fuel. Running out of your ego, well, you’re in a state of mental tension so severe that you may have died. In any case, the game is over.
Immediately after the garage was released, it was effectively killed. Publisher Toshiba-EMI has stopped printing CD-ROMs. All copies of the garage were made in only 3,000 copies in Japanese, which was barely enough to certify the game as cult status. It suffered from ambiguity for 20 years. But now it’s back, partly thanks to the efforts of the fans and partly thanks to the efforts of its creator.
So now you too will experience the joy of giving a gutter-caught weird crab to a large female coded robot and turning it into fuel. Fuel is supplied by a chest pump.
