Statins side effects: Three ‘common’ reactions when trying to lower cholesterol

Many people can tolerate statins without side effects, but for some people “common” skin complications can occur. For example, a rash can occur. WebMD experts have warned that statins can lead to flushing and acne. The Mayo Clinic added that urticaria can develop. This is a type of rash, also known as urticaria.

Urticaria is a skin color, a reddish color for light skin, and a purplish color for dark skin tones.

They can have a round, oval, or insect-shaped appearance that can range from the size of peas to the size of a dinner plate. In addition, urticaria may be accompanied by mild or severe itching.

Statins can also cause other reactions that do not appear on the skin, WedMD added.

Other side effects include:

  • headache
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Myalgia, tenderness, or weakness (myalgia)
  • sleepiness
  • dizzy
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Abdominal cramps and pain
  • Fullness or gas
  • diarrhea
  • constipation
  • Low levels of platelets.

“Although less common,” some people may experience hair loss, nausea, and pins and needles while taking statins.

You can also develop inflammation of the liver and feel like you have the flu.

On the other hand, inflammation of the pancreas can lead to stomach pain.

“Statins also warn that memory loss, confusion, neuropathy, hyperglycemia, and type 2 diabetes can be side effects,” WebMD added.

Do not miss it

The NHS recommends “lifestyle changes” that help lower cholesterol levels in addition to medication.

This includes a “healthy and balanced diet”, but what does this really include?

To meet this criterion, you need to eat “various fruits and vegetables at least 5 times daily”.

One needs to “eat on a high fiber starchy food” such as potatoes, bread, rice and pasta.

Other dietary requirements include legumes, legumes, fish, eggs, meat and other proteins.

There are also certain foods that need to be restricted, such as foods that are high in fat, salt and sugar.

Eating healthier should make it easier to maintain your weight, especially if you exercise regularly.

Exercising daily with enough intensity to raise your heart rate is one of the best ways to lower your cholesterol.
